New Conflict Dream

Tattoos on ankles
Of poorly drawn pentacles
Widows in anoraks
Wasted in cul-de-sacs
I say
Something’s wrong
But when I tell them what has happened
No one believes
Greatest of wing-spans
And fakest of fake-tans
The vultures fly past us
With waitress’s carcases
I say
Something’s wrong
But when I tell them what has happened
No one believes
me

Designing The New World

Stepping out of a darkened room
Piles of clothes that decompose like rotting fruit
Shattered compact discs are cracking underfoot
Under heel of riding boot
Under sole of tennis shoe
To the house on the edge of town
Refusing though the car is clearly broken down
Offers of assistance knowing that the price is risking life and limb
I can’t begin to tell you how
But I just knew
To the seat with the clearest view
Clouds of smoke you easily can see through
The coliseum heaving with plebeian fools
The slaves to love, the heroes wearing sequined gloves
The blood
The beasts without number
It’s the most exquisite looking show you’ve ever seen
You won’t forget the scenery
Though they call it a life of crime
It seems by far the noblest way of killing this time
Spitting distance from the final bow
It hardly matters now
Watch the last Thylacine living in captivity
And think about eternity
Your persistent absence is the sweetest company
You don’t know what it means to me

Life of the Inhabitant

I made you up to be with me
You came to life so naturally
And though you used my eyes to see
You had such canny vision
I felt you caused my mind to cleave in two
And so I made believe that you
Were never going to leave
And that I’d meet you soon
When will you be real?
I love your weird ideas
Sometimes we do disagree
Even though you’re made of me
You have a personality
But no materiality
I am walking all alone
Toward you though the ice and snow
But I know you won’t be home
You’re in a world of your own
You never answer the phone
You don’t check your mail
You’re unavailable
I still read your part while my heart turns to stone
You’re in a world of your own
You’ll never be at the show
Or afterwards at the disco
You don’t exist
You’re irresistible
The perfect companion that I’ll never know
You’re in a world of your own

A Million Miles

You hope to keep most of your teeth
You hope the coat you have will last
A million miles is what it takes
A million leagues tied to the mast
You gather up the thoughts of men
You keep the letters that they write
To read them all a million years
To burn them just a single night
And when your mind is full of sparks
The dishes in the kitchen sink
You have to do them by yourself
The fire is there to help you think
The music’s there to help you breathe
The bottle’s there to help you give
It doesn’t matter what you do
It only matters that you live

Death to All Actors

Ring the bell
Now the guests are leaving
Draw the veil
On the ancient evening
Scorpion
Accelerates your breathing
That’s my gift to you-
Sting
For the sake of the city, we buried the actors outside the walls
No one was really sure
Where they’d been
We burned their clothes in an empty boat
And divided up their things
The boatman sings:
Ring the bell
Now the guests are leaving
Draw the veil
On the ancient evening
You can’t forget the taste, you can’t forget the feeling
That’s my gift to you-
Sting

Staying up all night
To get the opposite of insight
Changing out of my uniform
In a tiny toilet stall
The writing on the wall
Says I should give you a call
0h seven, seven four
Five seven, seven four five nine
For a good time

time for dreams Melbourne, Australia
Amanda Roff & Tom Carlyon are Time For Dreams, an Australian duo making bleak, smoky, dehydrated bad-dream pop. Their music
is at once stark and lush, vivid and hazy.
Their work has a strong fantasy aspect and speaks to the existence of multiple realities. A perfect soundtrack for the end of the world.
